COFFEE – THE GOOD AND THE BAD

The average Americans coffee consumption exceeds 10 pounds per year!

Coffee is a narcotic beverage, a drug.  This drug of choice has many deleterious health effects.

The caffeine in coffee combines with hydrochloric acid (stomach acid) and forms a potent toxin.  As this toxin is absorbed into your circulation and hits your liver, bile is released in an attempt to flush it from your system.  This is what accounts for the increase in bowel “regularity” coffee drinkers experience.  You might want to ask yourself, “Is such a toxin induced flush really very health promoting?”

Drinking decaffeinated coffee is not a better choice.  The trichloroethylene used to decaffeinate coffee is a toxic chemical and has been linked to certain types of liver cancer.   It is used mainly as a degreasing agent in the metal industry and as a solvent and dry cleaning agent in the clothing industry – and you are drinking it!

If you must drink coffee, make it organic!  Coffee growers regularly and heavily use deadly pesticides on their plants. Some of the pesticides are Aldrin, Dieldrin, Chlordane and Heptachlor.

Roasting coffee beans at extreme temperatures denature the natural oils in the beans. This actually creates rancid oils and lipid peroxides with known toxic and carcinogenic effects in humans. The last thing you want to consume are toxic fats if you are concerned about your heart and brain health.

Nitrosomines and chlorogenic acid are found in coffee and are potent toxins that are known to undermine your health and promote cancer growth.

Regular use of coffee destroys important vitamins and minerals (like B-1, calcium, iron etc…).  It also prevents some nutrients in your food from being absorbed effectively in your small intestine.

The “buzz “ you get from coffee actually contributes to rebound fatigue when the stimulation wears off.  Repeated stimulation can contribute to exhaustion of key organs like the adrenal glands, the liver and pancreas.  If you really need a “buzz” consider drinking green tea, the caffeine effects are gentle and many other healing benefits of green tea outweigh the caffeine effects.

It is true that their have been studies attesting to coffee’s ability at cutting your risk of developing certain kinds of cancers and diabetes.  But, drinking coffee also increases your risk of other deadly diseases, such as stomach cancer, leukemia, stroke and rheumatoid arthritis.  Research also suggests that drinking more than two to three 8 oz. cups of coffee daily increases the risk of miscarriage, low birth weight babies, and birth defects like cleft palate.

Research shows that drinking coffee increases the risk of hypertension (high blood pressure) regardless of how much your drink.

Coffee may interfere with the body’s ability to keep homocyteine and cholesterol levels in check (most likely by inhibiting the action of vitamins B12, B6 and folate).

Studies also show, caffeine can raise your levels of stress hormones and can worsen symptoms of anxiety and nervousness.  Coffee also can interfere with sleeping patterns causing insomnia and sleep deprivation, which can then lead eventually to hormonal imbalances.

If you try to stop drinking coffee “cold turkey” you will likely experience symptoms of withdrawal like headaches, fatigue and depression.  Avoid this by cutting down gradually over a period of days.  During this process, use organic coffee only, use unbleached filters, drink plenty of water and consider green tea in place of coffee.

Minimize or avoid consumption of coffee for good health! Consider a cup of green tea instead!
